Tell us a bit about yourself and your business.
My name is Heather, and I was born and raised in the Toronto area. I have always been a hobby artist, but I truly embraced my creative side after becoming a mother. My move to Manitoulin Island inspired me to seek a creative outlet as a means of self-care and expression. My artwork primarily involves painting, and I enjoy working on a variety of pieces, ranging from small necklaces and ornaments to large canvases.
I find constant inspiration in the everyday beauty of the landscape that surrounds me.
What advice would you offer to an artist who is just beginning their journey?
Dedicate time for your creative pursuits. As an artist, there is no one out there giving you deadlines for your work, so you must be dedicated to making time for yourself.
Do not wait for inspiration to strike; simply begin.
This is especially important for creative mothers, as you deserve and require time for yourself to create, and it does not need to be extraordinary or flawless.
What is your ideal project, event, or collaboration?
My aspirations are ever-evolving! I would love to merge my passion for art and motherhood by establishing a space where other creative mothers can create, showcase their work, and connect with one another.
What inspires you, and where do you seek inspiration, and why?
I find constant inspiration in the everyday beauty of the landscape that surrounds me, which motivates me to create and paint. I am grateful for my connection to art, as it enables me to focus on the beauty in the world around us, and there is indeed beauty in nearly everything!
Shout-out your favourite maker based in Northern Ontario.
Since relocating to the North, I have met so many creative individuals who are truly remarkable. I am particularly inspired by the community events, like the Makers North markets, that showcase the unique and amazing talent found across the North. From stained glass works to original art and jewelry, there are simply too many amazing makers to choose just one!
